QuestionI have a fairly mature red quince bush that I would like to transplant to a new location. It is in bloom now, when would be the right time? I live in Salem, NH.
Thanks a million.
AnswerPhyllis,
Move your quince (don't you LOVE them?) as soon as it finishes blooming. Be sure to water it deeply after you move it, and water it once a week in normal temps and twice a week if the temperatures are above 85 through the summer. Next spring, if there is any die-back, just prune out any dead wood early in the season. Don't fertilize until next year, but composted cow manure in the area is OK.
all the best,
C.L.
