How do I revive my petunias?

Question
I have petunias growing in containers. I water them like I am supposed to and deadhead them frequently but the leaves are turning brown. Can you help me revive them? One is a Spreading petunia and the other is a trailing petunia. I also have impatiens in containers and they are doing wonderful!

Answer
Impatiens turning brown is sometimes a sign of over watering. The soil should be dry on top (but damp if you stick your finger deep into the pot). Then water. The soil should not be kept consistently moist. If the soil is very wet/saturated, or the container do not have drainage holes, this could be the reason.

Another time when petunias turn brown is typically due to too little water (the plants physically wither and die). The symptoms here would be very dry soil even to a dept of several inches.

Based on the fact that impatiens are doing fine, I guess too much water, and maybe too much shade, too. Petunias love full day sun. Impatiens likes some shade.
