AnswerWhen marigolds first sprout, a set of two oval leaves will appear. These leaves will have smooth edges. These leaves are called the "cotyledons" (or seed leaves). They do not resemble the permanent leaves which follow later.

The bottom let of leaves are the Cotyledons (oval leaves). The upper sets of leaves with jagged edges are the permanent leaves.

It only has two leaves which are oval shaped and smooth. These are the cotyledons.
