QuestionWhy are my yellow lillies having so many yellow leaves? The leaves that are not yellow are very pale green and have a yellow tinge. They just do not look healthy. I am watering them well. They are getting lots of full sun. I live in Louisiana, and the weather is very hot and very humid. I have used Miracle Grow, but not even that seems to help. Thanks for your help.
AnswerSince you tell me that you have fertilized, the annuals have not been lacking water, and they get sun, the only thing I can think of is poorly draining soil which can cause plant roots to die and leaves to yellow. I suggest you dig up a few and check the roots. If it is necerssary to replant, mix in compost or good quality potting soil with some bulking (draining) material into the top 12" of soil. I suggest 1/3 fine mulch mixed with potting soil and then this mixture is used 50%/50% garden soil. Do not layer, but mix it heavily into the existing (native) soil.
