QuestionLast year I planted some rudbeckia, strawflower and something else I don't remember.
This year, in almost the same spot, some plants with very fuzzy leaves and stems have come up. The plants are now about a foot tall. There are groups of stems with leaves part way between long and oval. The edges are slightly crenellated. The leaves grow one-at-a-height rather than directly across from each other. Could this be plants that seeded itself last year? I hope they are, instead of more weeds.
AnswerHelene, what you are describing sounds like strawflowers. They are prolific reseeders. Once they bloom, you will know for sure. If it turns out to be a flower other than one you've planted in the past, pull it immediately before it goes to seed. Otherwise, enjoy your inexpensive new bed of strawflowers.
Have a great weekend.
