reblooming

Question
My Stocks have been gorgeous this year and I would like them to continue to bloom.  They smell so good and the butterflies love them.  What is the best method to keep them blooming? Thanks

Answer
First make sure you keep soil evenly moist (mulching is also a good idea), and use a liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks. If you used a slow-release pelleted fertilizer at time of planting, or mixed in plenty of compost, you probably do not need to fertilize, but I do it anyway. I recommend 15-30-15 Miracle Grow, or 20-20-20 Peters.

To continue to induce flowers on all annuals, including Stock, keep the spent flowers trimmed. Simply do this by breaking off or clipping off faded flowers. This will encourage the plants to put out new flowers. Make it a habit to cut off spent flowers once every 7-14 days as you enjoy the flowers. That will keep the plant tidy, and the flower show going.

Good luck, and enjoy the flowers.
