QuestionIt is now June 17th. I'm planning on transplanting a number of Crimson Pygmy Barberry, Red Heart Rose of Sharon, and Goldflame Spiraea. Is this the appropiate time. If not, when do I do this. Thanks for your help. Steve.
AnswerThe best time to transplant bushes and perennials is in early fall. You could do it now, if you water faithfullyl over the next few weeks, but given a choice, I would wait until early September.
The only bushes I would move in spring would be azaleas, hydrangeas, and rhododendron because they flower on old wood and form flower buds soon after flowering. If moved in fall they tend to drop their buds.
