Geranium Flowering

Question
This year, for the first time, I purchased two rather large containers of red geraniums to be transplanted into large pots that sit on either side of my patio.  The containers probably contained 5 to 6 separated plants each and when I purchased them they were a mass of full red flowers.  Over the past weeks the flowers have died and I have removed the dead flowers and their stems.  Today, there are probably 15 to 20 buds and flowers in each pot.  There is however a real problem with these second set of flowers.  As you are aware, the geranium appear to be a group of small flowers to make up the large blossom. When the flowers now fully open on my plants they are relatively small compared to the flowers that were on the same plants when I purchased them (there are only a few of these small flowers in the clusters).  I am using a potting soil supposedly supplemented with a fertilizer, but I suspect a mineral deficiency.  Should I feed them additional potassium, Ironite, nitrogen or other additive to stimulate large, full blossoms.  Your advice is appreciated.

Answer
i'm in southern NJ. the weather has been unusually wet and cool here for the last month. this is not good for geranium flower production. geraniums like warm, sunny weather. they should perk up as soon as the right weather arrives. get to a local garden center/nursery to see what granular fertilizer they sell and recommend for geraniums. you want something well rounded like espoma plantone. you can also add miracle grow(1/4 teaspoon/gal) to your water when watering.
