Question
Aloe Plant 9
I've recently purchased and Aloe Plant that I wanted to use to treat sunburns for the summer. My plant has an orange color gel inside and a very strong disagreeable smell to it. This is my first Aloe plant and I'm not sure if this is normal. I've also questioned since noticing this if there are some varieties of Aloe plants that should not be used for topical treatment of burns. Any information would be helpful. I realize you are not in the medical field but thought you may have more knowledge of the subject than myself.
AnswerDear Pamela,
Sorry it's take me so long to respond - computer problems. That is the correct aloe for treating burns.
Orange gel and disagreeable odor isn't normal. The leaf that you cut looks healthy and the correct color, so I'm a tad confused. Was that the leaf with the problems?
It is possible that it isn't healthy. Cacti and succulents can look fine but be diseased in the roots. I'd take a look at the roots to see if they're white and healthy. Can you show me a picture of the orange colored gel? Also, cut another leave and see if it's the same. If so, I'd get another plant.
