Golden Barrel Cactus

Question
Hello,
I recentley bought and Golden Barrel Cactus and transplanted it into a new pot. It is about 10" in Diameter. Great color and seems to be doing alright. The Nursery I bought it from said it was just watered and I did not need to water for about another 2 weeks because of it being winter? Also, I did not notice before but it seems to be getting some wrinkles around the bottom and swaying to one side! Is this normal and if not what do I need to do? Also, it is in a great window that gets Sun all day and is in a warm house.

Answer
Hello Dan,
Yes, you should not water at all during the cold months of winter. Maybe a couple of waterings every 2 weeks may be fine. Also, you mentioned that you are keeping it inside a warm house. This doesn't sound like winter, right? Golden barrel cacti are NOT house cacti, and should be kept outside to experience the cold winter. Infact, they should be kept outside at all times, through out the year. If temperatures fall under 45 degrees (F), or if it gets heavy rain, or if it snows in your region, you may bring the cactus inside. By the way, wrinkles are caused do to over watering.
