Question
I have a blue agave that is about 1 year old, I planted it outside early June 2008, it gets lots of direct sunlight all day & has been growing beautifully. It is now about 1.5-2 feet tall now. I live in Virginia Beach, VA-zone 7-we are getting some cold nights (down to low 30's) but 50's-60's during the day. In the past 2 weeks my agave went from doing great to looking rough. Some leaves are browning & bending. The center still looks strong. They have 2 enormous blue agaves down at the ocean front that are doing fine. Do I need to dig my plant up for the winter? Should I cover it at night? I am so afraid of losing this plant.

Hello Karma,
At this point, you should not water your agave. Like cacti, agaves should not be watered during the winter, as the roots may be damaged by frost. Do not start watering it again until temperatures get warmer during the summer.
