I have a huge Christmas cactus that sets many,many buds every year but when they open they are drooped and wilted looking and just hang down,every spring I cut it back and fertilize regularly until bringing it back inside after it starts setting buds in the fall. The leaves are no longer glossy and it must be 9 or more years old. What am I doing wrong? Does it need repotting or is it just too old,the plant has a very woody appearance now and it breaks easily.
It must be at least 4ft in circumference even after I cut it back. All of the rootings are doing the same thing even though they are small. Thanks for any help you can give, Betty

There may be several reasons for this. One, you may be over watering. Is the soil always moist? Allow the soil to dry between waterings. Is the temperature too low for it to tolerate? In the winter, Christmas cacti should be allowed exposition to 60 degrees or higher. In warmer months, They should stay room temperature. Is it getting enough light? Your cactus should recieve full sunlight for at least 4 hours.
