mexican fencepost-pachycereus marginatus

Question
I have about 5 stems about 4-8 foot tall and during a recent storm (wind) one stem about 4 foot broke off at ground level.  How should I replant it? Is it salvageable?
should I keep it exposed to sun or shade until it is replanted?  Do I let the bottom with is very moist dry out before replanting?

Regards

Answer
Richard,

How should I replant it? After the break heals, replant in the soil about 5 inches deep. Make sure to orient it north/south just like it was before it broke.

Is it salvageable? Yes.

should I keep it exposed to sun or shade until it is replanted?  No, partial shade would be best.

Do I let the bottom with is very moist dry out before replanting? Yes, for at least 2 to 3 weeks.

It will take longer to root this time of year, but it should be fine. Good luck.

Sincerely,

Greg
