Kalanchoe Thyrsiflora

Hi Greg, I was just wondering about a plant that I just purchased from Walmart. The label calls it a Kalanchoe Thyrsiflora. When I got it, it was in 6 inch pot. It actually still is. The soil is kind of gritty. Maybe sand. I watered it, and the soil was dry the next day. Is this normal for this type of plant, in this type of soil? What should I do. How can I tell that the plant isn't under watered? I thought that I might water it every month or two. Any info will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Vee

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Generally succulent plants require less water in winter. The best way to water a succulent plant (including cacti) is to soak the soil, then let it dry out completely before watering again. Some people believe that a teaspoon of water every other month is enough, that is incorrect. Even the most drought resistant cactus would perish under those condition.
