QuestionGreg: I have been told that grafting a slow growing cactus to a fast growing cactus will accelerate the growth rate of the slower plant. However, the faster growth comes with the cost of accelerated aging and death of the scion. Do you know if this is true or not?
AnswerJeff,
I do not know if that is true. However, most cacti live a while, so you'll still get a long time with your plant. Grafting is generally used with plants that are very finicky growing on their own roots (susceptible rot especially), so grafting can actually prolong some plants life span.
Sincerely,
Greg
