broken catci

Question
QUESTION: Hi,
My very tall cacti plant broke in thirds, is there any way I can save this plant, and what do I need to buy in order to fix my cacti?
Thank you in advance in sharing any experience you may offer.
I feel terrible that it broke. It was an accident.
Toni

ANSWER: Toni,

The best option for you is to replant the broken pieces in the same pot (or another one), after they have been allowed to dry out for a couple of weeks. There is no good way I have found to reconnect the broken pieces. The piece left in the soil should grow arms from just below the break. Sorry for the bad news, but you plant should survive the ordeal. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Greg

QUESTION: Thanks Greg for the info, my next question is? Do I continue to water the broken cacti like normal, or do I let it dry out too?
Thanks in advance for all your help.
What was very cool about this cacti it actually grew four feet in two years in the back yard of where we live. During the summer months it would grow like gang busters.

Answer
Toni,

Let the pieces dry out for at least a couple of weeks. The plant and water only when the soil is dry just like any cactus should be watered. If they root, it should be in about a month or so from the date you plant them. Hope this helps.

Good luck,  Greg
