QuestionGreg, I live in Kentucky and would love to grow cactus. I have several small plants that I've kept in my window this winter. I know They need to be transplanted but I have no idea how to do it. Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Also can I plant them outside in a rock garden this summer, do you think? Thank you. Jeanie
AnswerJeanie,
They transplant like any other plant, except you'll want to use a "cactus mix" type of soil. Water after transplanting, but don't water again until the soil is dry. You can try planting them in a rock garden, however most cacti don't like a lot of water or excessive cold. Chances are you get about 5 to 10 times the amount of rain of the typical desert, so you run the risk of drowning your plants. Here is a good webpage that has a lot of info regarding cacti in your part of the country.

Hope this helps.
