QuestionMy friend wants to give me a sagauro from her yard about 3-4ft tall, she has the permit but we were told to wait until the water has been emptied from inside for the season to move it (it would be lighter)and that it must face north the same way it grew. Can you explain to me exactly what time of year is the best time to move it and what you would suggest to mix in the dirt if anything to help growth. We live in Tucson, Az.
AnswerLinda,
Actually now would be best. If you wait until summer, the plant may be lighter, but it will also struggle to make it through the summer with no roots. If you plant it now, it may start to grow new roots prior to summer time which will help the plant survive. Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Greg
