Cactus puning

Question
I think I have whats is called a San Pedro Cactus. I got it when it was about 5 feet tall. It has 2 very tall stalks, and on a short 1 foot stalk.
Now it is almost up to my ceiling( 8 feet), and I want to prune it, and maybe transplant it. Its been in the same pot for many years.  I keep it indoors because its too heavy to carry outside. I live in PA.
Can you please give me some guidance?
Thank you

Answer
Dear Teena,

I would cut it in half (the top 4 feet of both stems), and replant them in the same pot next to the original plant. The original stems will branch from the cut point and the other two newly planted stems should continue to grow.

Just make sure that after you make the cut, let the pieces "heal for at least a could of weeks prior to replanting. If there isn't enough room in your original pot, make sure to use a "cactus mix" type of soil which should be available at most nursery centers. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
