Question
I would like to know how to propagate this cactus. Any information will be appreciated. I still do believe that the cactus orginated from Peru.

I believe the cactus originated from Peru but would like to have an expert opinion. I have some pictures of it blooming if I could send you a few. It blooms late at nite until early in the morning on one time. It took seven years for it to bloom at all. At first I was not sure what the bud was. I had no idea it bloomed. The cactus is about 9 foot tall and I have had it for about 8 years. The flower is white and looks like an orchid.

Dear Liz,

Cuttings are the easiest way to propagate. Make sure to let the cuttings heal for a couple of weeks prior to replanting. It will take a month or two to root, so be patient and make sure to let the soil dry out between waterings.

This plant, if it is a Cereus peruvianus and despite its name, is actually from Brazil and Argentina. It has been in cultivation for so long that it is now naturalized all over the world. Hope this helps.
