QuestionHi Greg!
We just moved and received an agave and another cactus as a housewarming gift. We live in Phoenix where these are found in the wild so I thought it was safe to put them on my balcony. How much water do they need? And how do I make sure they ook their greatest?
Thank you,
Mette
AnswerDear Mette,
Even though they may be from a desert area like Phoenix, that doesn't mean they will do well in direct sun. The reason is that most cacti and succulents are grown in greenhouses and are never exposed to direct sunlight. Not to mention, being in a pot is much different than being in the ground.
Make sure they only get morning sunlight (if in direct sun) and water when the soil is dry. Which in summer means about once a week and once a month in the winter (I live in Phoenix too). Be careful not to overwater. Watch for signs of sunburn (yellowing or turning white). It that happens, move the plant to a semi-shaded area. Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Greg
