QuestionI bought an Aloe vera and a Melocactus at walmart. My Melocactus is producing a pink flower. How do I get it to flower\germinate seeds? What about sun requirements? Also, what about my Aloe? Should I keep it outside in the morning and indoors in the afternoon? Water? Feeding? Thanks again for your help!
AnswerDear Shawn,
Melocactus flower from what is called a cephalium, which is a completely different looking part of the plant than the base of the plant. Like any other flower, they need a polinator. Check out this webpage for additional info: http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Cactaceae/Melocactus.html
Treat your Aloe just like a cactus as far as watering and light goes. The strongest light possible without being in direct sun. They will grow outside, as long as it doesn't get to cold..stay above 40 degrees. Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Greg
