QuestionOn a recent trip to the Canary Islands (about 3 weeks ago now) I broke off a piece of new growth of what I believed to be a Prickly Pear. I have left it alone to dry out before planting and now it looks like it is actually a flower which is in the early stages. There are no signs of any roots yet. Will it get roots at all or just die? Thanks, Vickie
AnswerDear Vickie,
Cactus will flower with no roots, and it can take months for roots to form. "Prickly pear cactus are very easy to propagate, so don't be concerned too much. Just keep it in the soil and water when the soil is completely dry. Once it shows new growth, then water a little more often, still letting the soil get dry between waterings. Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Greg
