QuestionThanks for answering my first question so quickly. I'm pretty certain my cactus is an Escobaria emskoetterriana. My last question is, should I keep it indoors in filtered sunlight, or outdoors in filtered, indirect sunlight? I read that Succulents should be placed outdoors in the summer, and indoors in the winter. Thanks again!

Question -
I have recently purchased a Succulent cactus from Walmart. It appears to be healthy. It was in a small pot when I got it. My question is, what are the basic requirements for my cactus--water, light, ect. Also, can I keep it indoors by a window or under a light? I am asking this because I have central air on the other side of my room. Could this affect my plant? Thanks!

Dear Shawn,
Without knowing what type of cactus you have, I can only give you very general information. Water only when the soil is dry and keep it in the brightest light possible without being in direct sunlight. Under those conditions it should grow fine.
A grow light works best if you grow it under a light, but it will need 12 to 15 hours per day of light to grow well. Hope this helps somewhat.
Sincerely,
Greg
AnswerDear Shawn,
Here is a website that will give you some very basic info: http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Cactaceae/Escobaria_emskoet.html
It sounds like they are prone to rotting, so only water when the soil is completely dry. Escobaria are small cactus that will generally grow under a shrub, tree or grasses. So I wouldn't reccomend direct sunlight unless you are in a cool summer environment. Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Greg
