Is my jade plant dead?

Question
It has been suggested that I take the plant out of it's pot and let the roots dry out and then replant it in a smaller pot but I'm not keen to do this as I'm afraid this would damage the roots and possible kill the plant, what do you think? It's trunk hasn't gotten any steadier over the last week and it needs the support more so do you think it's worth keeping or is it probably already dead??

Question -
I have just inherited a small jade plant but the trunk seems to be very wobbly in it 's pot and I think that it may have been over watered and the roots may have rotted. The trunk itself is strong and stands up with a little help from a wooden stick the lower leafs are droopy and soft but the higher up leafs seem to be ok. At the moment it is living in the conservatory with plenty of sunlight and I have not been watering it, is this right?? Can I save it or should I give up?
Answer -
Dear Louise,

It is also possible someone has given you a cutting that hasn't rooted yet. In either case, not watering unless the soil is dry is good. If the trunk becomes soft, you may have to take a cutting and start over. Give it a few more weeks before you give up on it. You also might try a product called "SuperThrive".

It should be available at a local nursery or online. Follow the directions on the bottle and it may help. It does wonders when transplanting or nursing sick plants back to health. Good luck!

Sincerely,

Greg

Answer
It sounds like the plant is already stressed. Transplanting will only create more stress. You can accomplish the same thing by not watering and leave it where it is. If the plant appears to improve, again, use the Superthive. If it does not improve, then its time for a new one.

Sincerely,

Greg
