QuestionHi,
I was wondering if you could recommend some resources on desert gardening, either web based or books. I will be moving to Lake Havasu City from Southern Cal soon and know nothing about desert gardening. I am an avid gardener and would like to continue gardening with as an extensive plant selection as possible.
Thank you for your time and advice,
maria
AnswerDear Maria,
I have no actual resources that I can recommend, other than general purpose C&S books, such as MIles Anderson's. I personally just put theings together and hope they work - otherwise, I start over.
Since you're in Southern California, how about availing yourself of the various xerophytic gardens we have down here? There are hundreds, if not thousands, of such gardens, both private, university and public.
If you're in San Diego I recommend the Balboa Park gardens.
You can also call up landscape architects and ask them, but really, your own eye is best for creating that look you want.
Have you gone to the library and checked on books on landscaping - probably lots there, too.
Hope this helps,
Jeff
