aloes leaves are turning grayish red color

Question
Hi there, I hope you can provide some insight for my aloe plants. I have several that are anywhere between 1-3 years old. Recently, instead of being the solid green color, they have developed a faint grayish red color to them. I seperated a baby aloe plant from the mother plant and that is turning this color with the bottom leaves red and slightly shrivaled up. Do you know what is going on?

Answer
HI Lisa,

My aloe plants along with the other succulents, change color and character in winter.  THis may be a normal conversion for your plant.  All aloe will not tolerate the same degree of cold.  If the plants leaves are firm (not mushy) the plant is probably okay.    If the plant leavs become mushy and slimy, they've been affected by frost and will die, although the entire plant can still survive if the roots are not affected.
