3000 Kelvin Bulbs

Question
Is it acceptable to use ONLY 3000 kelvin bulbs? The site says that this type of bulb provides the correct spectrum for flowering plants.

Answer
Hi John,

What they mean by that is for plants that you are trying to get to flower, such as tomatoes, pot, etc...  With carnivores you are wanting mostly vegetative growth.  3,000K is similar to the output of High Pressure Sodium bulbs, and what you get with many plants is nice elongated growth, and in the case of sundews, crazy blooming.  Nepenthes often don't pitcher if this is the sole source of light.  Go for something in the 5,000 - 6,500K range.

Good Growing!
