Question
Nepenthis lid
Thanks Jeff.
I have moved locations of the plant, but I'm curious as to why (although happy it's only the lid of one pitcher)only the lid has dried up, not the entire pitcher?. My concern is, could some kind of bug do that, or should I just chalk up to the winter conditions at the moment, as you mentioned?
AnswerHi Jim,
This doesn't look like insect damage. It looks like the typical seasonal decline of pitchers in winter, or from disturbance. If you see other signs that look like bugs, get a hand lens and examine the leaves carefully. The most common pest of Nepenthes are Scale and Thrips. Scale insects look like bumps on the plant and Thrips are long, tiny insects. Let me know if you see any of these and I can help you with treatment.
