reporting Butterwort

Question
I have an Aphrodisiac Butterworth that I purchased from you in Dec 2013.  It is still in the original 3 inch pot.  How do I know when it is time to repot it?  The plant is doing very well.

Answer
Hi Patricia,

Well, I'd report a butterworth too if it were an aphrodisiac. :)  I think your auto correct was having some fun with you.

I pretty sure you mean Pinguicula x "Aphrodite".  If it's been two years, it's time to repot it.  Mexican butterworts don't have real big root systems, so they can often do fine in the same pot for quite awhile.  If you have the space bump it up to a 5 or 6 inch pot.  It will get quite big.  They like a course soil media with sand like our course mix, or you can mix your own.  We use 1 part sand, 2 parts perlite, 1 part peat moss.  Mexican butterworts also really enjoy having 1 tablespoon of dolomite lime per cup of soil added.  Many species we grow really took off when we switched them to an alkaline media.  You just can't put them in the same water trays with other cp if you do that. (Mexican pings shouldn't sit in water too much anyway.)

Good Growing!
