QuestionI'm the guy who asked about the light and light clamp. I am not wondering about will it fit, I'm asking will the clamp be able to handle the wattage of the bulb.
AnswerHi Eric,
Here's how you find that information. On the clamp fixture, look down the page at the "Item Description". You'll see that it's rated for 150 watts incandescent. That is for an old fashioned light bulb which is actual 150 watts, and those bulbs are quite hot.
On the CFL, if you look at the "Item Specifications", you will see that the actual power consumed is only 42 watts. That's way below the maximum, and CFL units are nowhere near as hot as incandescent bulbs. It is well within the specs for the fixture.
I use these in my stand at Portland Saturday Market, and the problem I've had in the past is that the ballast base on the CFL doesn't always have enough clearance in the reflector to screw all the way in. For that reason I'd be leery of buying this online since different brands can have slightly different dimensions. They do make CFL's for horticultural use that would exceed the 150 watt rating, but those are so big they wouldn't fit any way. They also tend to need special ballasted fixtures.
Good Growing!
