HO lighting question

Question
Would high, medium, or low altitude Nepenthes work best for 3000k HO florescent lights?

Answer
Hi John,

Probably none of the above.  3,000k is very yellow-orange similar to High Pressure Sodium HID lighting.  My experience is that the plants will grow ok under them if it's bright enough, but they won't pitcher.  The color temperature needs to be more in the 5-6,000K range.  Most Nepenthes are high light plants so whether or not they are highland or lowland doesn't really have much bearing on light requirements.  It's much more species by species.  By HO lighting you mean T-5 fluorescents, if you get some units in the 6500K range, which is what most commercial grow-lights are, you can grow most Nepenthes.

Good Growing!
