Question
I just bought an orchid fert. Orchid Focus Ultra Plus, urea free. My question is, is it safe to use products urea free watering them into Dead LFSM into my nepenthes I have heard that it makes them LFSM mushy overtime or is it safer to use it as a foliar feed only.

Hi Jon,

Because you need to use the fertilizer at 1/4 strength, and only about once every two weeks, occasionally using it in the soil usually doesn't cause problems.  For the plants themselves, foliar feeding is often most effective since carnivorous plants are better adapted to absorbing nutrients through their leaves anyway.

This product should be just fine.  We use a very similar product on our Nepenthes.  Just keep it dilute.  If your plants are pitchering and catching insects, fertilizer may not be needed.
