QuestionI have my nepenthes potted in Dried LFS, just noticed 1-3 fungus gnats lingering around coming out and hiding in the LFS, I just want to know is it safe to 1/4 dilution with 100% neem oil with Warm RO h20 and pour it into the potting mix to alter larvae production an slow the process of the insects or just give a light spray into the LFS. An it wont damage Nepenthes Roots?
AnswerHi Jon,
I've used Neem on Nepenthes as a leaf spray, but not as a soil drench. After some quick research on the internet, I found opinions vary on using it as a soil drench. Since your plants are stressed already, I would avoid it.
Here's an easier, safer solution. Water your plants with water that you have placed mosquito dunks in. We use these all the time in our Sarracenia pools, and in our Nepenthes greenhouse in the winter. Just put one in your water and they release their bacterial toxins over a month. They are only toxic to specific fly species which include Mosquitoes and Fungus gnats. Here's an example: http://www.aussiepestcontrol.com/mosquito_dunks.htm
