QuestionCan you use boiling water to sterilize peat moss. If not how do you?
AnswerHi Eric,
Boiling most anything will sterilize it. You can boil the peat in a pot for total sterilization, or I sometimes will pour boiling water over trays of peat mix or cell plug trays being used for propagation. This is mostly to kill algae spores. It will kill lots of fungal spores too, but just the brief high temperatures may not kill tougher fungal spores. Boiling the peat in a pot will kill everything. I still use fungicide spray when doing cuttings, however, since fungal spores float in the air and an get picked up super easily.
