Question

Flytrap   I live in redding connecticut. I grow my Flytraps outdoors, but to shield from frost I am taking them inside every night until around may. They are growing in a ceramic pot on my porch where it gets very warm on hot days.
All of the other ones have started to put up new traps or already have been. But this plant is a new one that I got from california carnivores that came with traps. It caught a lot of bugs and now has only one trap that is functioning. It has been catching food and getting enough sun but won't produce any traps. It has two large flower stalk stems that were cut off right above the rhizome and I think it is blocking new growth but I am not sure. I hope that you can help me figure out what is wrong. Thankyou!

Hi Jack,

Your plant is most likely going through some transition shock as it adapts to its new climate.  It was certainly warmer in California where it was before, and after cutting flowers off it takes them some time to begin producing traps again.

You'll just need to give the plant time.  Once you start getting consistently warmer temperatures you should see plenty of new growth.  B-52 tends to be a pretty hardy clone, so it should come around in about a month.  Our flytraps here in Oregon that are outside are just starting to produce new growth.  This week is the first week of temperatures in the 70's we've had this spring.
