QuestionHI,
I have am currently growing Heliamphora. They are inside but do get some bugs (small fruit flies). They are growing nicely but I am curious about fertilizers. I know some growers like to use fertilizers, others do not.I have read about using foliar fertilizers such as epiphyte's delight and 30-10-10 orchid fertilizer. First would you recommend using these? Second, I use Dyna-Gro Orchid-Pro (7-8-6) for my orchids. Would this work for my Heliamphora as well? I appreciate any advice!
Thanks for your time,
Kathy
AnswerI use fertilizers on my Heliamphora, and we produce some very gorgeous specimens! I use a fertilizers that are urea-free, which allows plants quicker absorption of nitrogen. Epiphytes Delight is likely urea-free. Start with 1/4 teaspoon per gallon. You can pour the solution in the pitchers and soil This is a very safe concentration for Heliamphora. Do this no more than once weekly. As your plant gets larger, you can increase the concentration to 1/2 - 1 teaspoon per gallon, once every 1-2 weeks.
Good growing!
