Question
Alata
Hey Jason from Arizona here. I wanted to show you the Alata I bought from you about a year and half ago. Take a look at this growth. This is all it did last year. The pitchers were always thin and had no development. Full sun of course. I have put a few osmocote pellets to try to give it a boosts. Any way any thoughts?
AnswerThis is typical for early season, and is not at all unusual, even in its native habitat. The plant also gets its name, alata, because of the wings or alae on the pitchers. The best looking pitchers occurs when the weather cools after the intense summer heat. It seems the plant needs to experience a hot period followed by a cool period before you see the really nice pitchers.
Good growing!
