Bare root plants

Question
I ordered potting supplies and about 5 bare root plants, (4 sarracenia, 1 nepenthes.) I thought the soil would come around the same time as the plants but the plants came about 6 days before the soil, the only other soil I have is just the standard mix, enough to fill a 3-inch pot. I do not know what to do, and  I was hoping you could tell me what to do so my plants do not die. Thank you!

Answer
Since you don't have enough soil for all of your plants, you could let your plants sit in a dish of water.  Doing this short term, no more than a few days, will not harm your plants.  We do this when we don't have time to pot up plants right away.

If you anticipate that the soil will take longer than a few more days to arrive, such as more than a week, then you could go to your local garden center and purchase dried sphagnum moss.  Use that as a temporary medium until you get your package.

Good growing!
