QuestionHi, I've had a Nepenthes Miranda for about 7 months now. When I first got the plant it had several pitchers but after about a month the pitchers turned brown and fell off and it hasn't produced any since. I live in south Georgia so it's pretty sunny and warm here. I keep the plant by a west facing window and keep the soil moist. It's growing like crazy but it just won't produce any pitchers, am I doing something wrong?
AnswerHi Ashton,
Usually with N.x miranda issues with them not producing pitchers is a light issue. This plant needs about 4-5 hours of sun on a sunny day to make pitchers. During the winter they won't pitcher due to the short days, but as the days lengthen it should make a difference. Be sure the plant is in a direct sun window. The leaves should be a little reddish. If they are pure green it needs more sun.
This plant is also a good candidate to put outside during the summer. They can do very well hanging under a small tree to give it intermittent dappled sun. (Sun indoors in a window is much weaker than outside, so some shade outdoors is needed.) It should love your hot humid Georgia summers.
Good Growing!
