QuestionThe leaves on my Nepenthes x Syurga recently started changing color from a light green to a darker reddish brown. This change started right about after I installed another tube in my fluorescent grow light fixture. The new leaves on the plant, however, are still green, and the plant is producing pitchers as normal, and nothing seems to be dying or dead yet...should I be worried?
Plant is potted in a sphagnum/perlite/vermiculite mixture, receives about 14 hrs of bright fluorescent light from 3 24 W tubes every day. I water it with melted snow or rainwater. Southern Connecticut, though plant is grown indoors. 20-50% humidity.
AnswerHi Christopher,
It sounds like your leaves are just darkening from brighter light. If Nepenthes x Syurga has any Nepenthes maxima in it's parentage, leaves normally have a reddish appearance when in normal light which would be partial sun. Your growing conditions are good, and your plant sounds quite healthy.
Good Growing!
