Flytrap Dormancy

Question
I have a lot of various carnivorous plants. recently i fell and broke my hip i was in the hospital and rehab for 3 weeks and asked a friend to care for them. she didn't do very well when i got home all were close to dead if not dead. the flytraps were almost dead  few  traps survived  but some are coming  back with new traps  My question is since its near time to put them in a cool place should i do that or wait till the traps mature more to develop full traps I would think if they are not fully developed they may not survive  cold weather for long periods of time. Please help me with this problem  Thank You Charles Gallells

Answer
Given your particular situation, here's what I recommend.  Place your plant in a very sunny south window where it will get direct sunlight.  Keep it there until spring when the risk of frost has passed.

The reason for doing this is because your plant doesn't seem to be healthy enough to go through a full winter dormancy.  If a plant is unhealthy, we recommend to skip winter dormancy.  Your plant may or may not have enough starches to help it survive a full winter.  So grow it in a south window.  It will slow down, but it won't use up all of its starches.  This way, it will have enough energy to resume full growth in spring.

When growing it in your south window, keep it very close to the window so it could experience some of the cold air coming from the glass.  In spring, acclimate your plant to outdoor growing.  Do this when you're certain the risk of frost has passed.  This might be in May in your region.

Hope you get better soon!

Good growing!
