QuestionHello I have a baby fanged pitcher plant that gets filtered sunlite from my window and gets sprayed by distilled water 2 to 3 times a day depending on humidiy. So do I really need a terrerium I live in soulth florida and my house meets the tempature requierments and it gets pretty humid in my house too so do I really need a terrerium cause I heard it can give your plant problems like root rotting.thank you for my time and thanks! :)
AnswerI'm assuming that when you say "fanged pitcher plant," you mean Nepenthes bicalcarata. This is an important distinction because this species has a somewhat narrow range of growing conditions compared to other types of Nepenthes.
If you live in South Florida, you definitely don't need a terrarium to grow this plant. Your region is plenty humid. In fact, you can grow your plant outdoors under a tree where it can get dappled sunlight throughout the day. You will need to protect this plant from night temperatures below 50癋. This species is a lowland plant, so it prefers night temperatures above 60癋.
Other than problems of root rot, I wouldn't recommend growing this plant in a terrarium because this plant gets huge. An adult specimen can be more than 3 feet across. It'll also grow a very long vine. So this plant will quickly outgrow any terrarium!
Good growing!
