Question
Hi guys,
I'm in an Ap biology class and we have the option of doing a project where we have grow and record 3 different plant species over the course of 45 days. I thought this would be fun with carnivorous plants. Because of this I wanted to ask for your advice on 3 species that: 1. could be grown inside this winter, and 2. that would show significant change in the 45 days. i have no problem with difficulty, I grow sundews, pings, nepenthes, heliamphora, the whole works. I also would like to be able to order them from you, (if I don't already have them).
Thanks,
Nathan

Answer
I'd admit that 45 days is not terribly long.  Carnivorous plants in general grow much slower than regular plants.  Some carnivorous plants grow quicker than others, but they generally grow slower than regular plants.  The faster growing carnivorous plants are sundews, particularly Drosera capensis, Drosera adelae and Drosera binata (any form or variety).  These plants would likely show significant change within 45 days when grown in optimal conditions.  Nepenthes alata might be possible, but you'll need to really increase the daytime heat and humidity to encourage rapid growth.

Good luck with your project!

Good growing!
