QuestionMy cape sundew's stem and leaves are turning black. They appear to be dying. The sundew hasn't been producing dew for at least a week. The leaves began turning black yesterday. Prior to this, the sundew looked healthy and vibrant and was producing dew. It was outside in full afternoon sun. Before it started turning black, I put a plastic bag overtop the plant because I was concerned there was not enough humidity as the outside humidity in our area had dropped. I continued to water it with the plastic bag on top. Today, I cut off two green leaves for a leaf cutting. Can you give me some advice on what to do to revive my sundew?
AnswerHello Caleb,
I can almost guarantee that the reason why your plant is black and dieing is because when you put the plastic bag over the plant, you created a super heated environment which is frying your plant. There are two ways you can save this plant, take the plastic bag off. Bring it inside and put it under lights, or other way to keep it outside without the plastic bag. Without knowing where you live, its hard to tell what your temps are, and the humidity conditions in your area.
