Question
White Thing On Leaf White Thing and Red Le
1)Nepenthes Sanguinea
2)Do you know what the red part at the base of the leaf is?
There is also a white thing on the tip of the leaf, it looks powdery and I know that it's not mealy bugs.
(Sorry that I keep bothering you guys, I'm a bit worried because this is my first nepenthes...)
3)Fluorescent Lighting, R.O. water, and it is in a long fiber sphagnum and orchid bark mix with a little perlite.
I had this plant for only 4 days now.
4)California(if it helps)
AnswerHi Joshua,
Thanks for sending the photos. That always helps.
Your plant is perfectly normal. That red base is a color that N. sanguinea gets at times. The "white thing" on the leaf tip is a fuzz that protects a newly developing pitcher. This is all very normal. The time you need to investigate further is if you see odd red spots that you've not seen before. Take out a hand lens and look then to see if you see long, thin bugs. Those are Thrips, and you would need to treat for those. Your plant is fine.
Good Growing!
