Looking for a pitcher plant for Hawaii

Question
Aloha,

I am looking for advice on finding a small pitcher plant for my kitchen in Hawaii. The area is between the wet and dry side so we have some humidity, but not fully. The kitchen gets sunlight from the northwest side and the temperature is pretty much always warm:) Any advice on a variety of the plant and growing here is much appreciated.

thank you!

Answer
Hello Sayo,

Nepenthes ventrata is a good starter plant that adapts to a wide range of conditions and is easy to grow. It also does not grow too large for a Nepenthes, but probably will need occasional pruning in a limited space. You may need to place some florescent lighting if the only windows you have are northwestern as the plants need more than ambient light and just slightly less than full sunlight.

Sarracenia Northwest experts have contacts with suppliers in Hawaii and probably will point you towards even better information about a good candidate Nepenthes for your kitchen (one of them is Hawaiian himself.)
