Question
Nepenthes Truncata Pla Nepenthes Truncata
Hello,
Ive got some weird spots on my plant. Im not sure if its fungus or bugs. Here is some pictures, please help!
AnswerHello Jake,
Nepenthes often develop reddish spots, and even orange to purple red leaves, in bright light.
Sometimes fungus does grow in spots on the leaves. Most often the fungus is eating the spots of nectar dried on the leaves. Nepenthes often have nectar glands on their leaves as well as their pitchers.
One way to tell if it is mold is to rub a white paper towel on the leaf. If the coloration rubs off on the paper, it is mold. Such mold is usually harmless, but can be treated with Neem oil or sulfur based fungicide.
If the spot does not rub off, and seems reddish, it is just coloration from intense light. If the spots are brownish and seem like dying sections of leaf, there may be pests biting on the leaves or some other problem your unaware of.
