QuestionHello there!
I recently put together a small 10 gallon terrarium for my Mexican pinguicula. I had a chrome applique applied to three of the sides so that light reflects inward. I used 2 inches of LECA (rinsed) in the bottom with 3" to 4" of FlyTrap Store growing medium on top of that. The layers are separated by weed control membrane (no chemicals). I also used some clear fish tank aeration tubing to maintain access to the water table. I can add or remove (if necessary) distilled water using a syringe without disrupting the soil.
I have a small house fan blowing into the tank. I hope that it provides enough airflow as there's only about an inch wide gap along the top of the tank for air to enter/exit. I have a reptile hood on the top of the mesh lid with two 25 watt CFL bulbs in it. I purchased the 'daylight' ones thinking they'd be best but have since read that cool white is better.
In the terrarium I have planted a Pinguicula Cyclosecta, a P. Ehlersiae, two small P. Esseriana, and a P. Jaumavensis.
The condition of my plants has improved after planting them in the terrarium though they are not coloring up as I'd like to see. The temperature during the day is normally 75 to 85 degrees F and the humidity is between 50% and 60%.
It is my dream to have a beautiful carnivorous terrarium. I really want this to be successful. There is a light I am very interested in. What are your thoughts on this?-- 24" long, 18" wide 6 bulb T5 HO Lighting Fixture - 24 watts each bulb. The bulbs are 6500K. The seller says it puts out 12,000 lumens. Do you think that this light would be better for my pings?
What are your thoughts on my setup? Also, is there any way I can encourage moss to grow? The bare growing medium is pretty unattractive.
Thank you so much for any advice!!!

Hell Sarh, I think your terrarium set-up is great in fact so much like what I have been having thriving carnivorous plants for many years now. The 6500K lighting/bulbs will be great for your plants coloring and to help the moss grow just adding a little more humidity by closing the openings just a little more but keep your eye out for fungus/mold and at the temperature all the time! How far is the top of your plants for the lighting? How many hours are they getting of this lighting? this too can addd a lot of coloring to your carnivorous plants! Thanks, and have a wonderful day and happy growing. Later Dan (Daniel Lee Bowen)
