Question
Window Close up
I was told that a possible reason my nepenthes isn't producing pitchers was either misting, or lack of sunlight. At first I believed it was both, definitely misting was a problem, but now I'm not sure about my light conditions. I've included some pictures of the plants hanging in the window sill at around 7-8am I didn't check, these plants get direct sunlight(casts shadow) since dawn until arouns 2pm after which it dies down to a gentle sunny glow. I'd just like to know if you guys think it is a good environment in this little room. The room is most certainly best for temperature requirements. If you need more photos just ask. Also one of the plants has grown new leaves with thin but obvious red edges, if that means anything.
AnswerHi Daniel,
Thank-you for sending the photos. This really helps. This is a good example of "The Devil is in the Details". You need to move your plants down by using some extension hooks or chain. Get them into the lower third of the window. When they are higher like this, they don't get as much sun as you think they are because of the angle of the sun. I have a plant in my living room right now that is hanging the same way and is having the exact same problem. I have mine where it is because of aesthetic reasons, but if it was lowered to the shelf the light it gets would be doubled. Do the same for yours and you should see a big improvement, especially since your days are getting longer this time of year. Ours are getting shorter very fast. :(
Good Growing!
